CommUniversity Welcomes Students
Pocatello gave a warm welcome to new Idaho State University students Monday afternoon, opening up the Old Town Pavilion for students of all ages.
The event, Welcome Back Orange and Black, was sponsored by CommUniversity, an organization dedicated to striking a positive balance between the campus and the city. About 40 local businesses showed up to give out free swag to all the students, and they got the chance to hear from the mayors of Pocatello and Chubbuck, the ASISU president, and other local leaders.
Organizers are optimistic about making a connection that benefits everyone.
“And it’s really important that the students know that there’s support out there and we’re glad they’re here. Because, school isn’t easy,” said co-coordinator Valorie Watkins.
“This brings a whole new level of excitement that’s going to bring 2011 into a new era of ISU. I am so excited about it I don’t know how to contain it,” said Benny, the ISU Bengal.
CommUniversity will host another event in the spring for non-students to go explore the campus.
