FAME Program Engages Kids With The Arts
Some elementary schoolers got a taste of “FAME” on Friday.
FAME, an acronym for the “Fine Arts Mini-program,” is in full swing at Longfellow Elementary in Idaho Falls.
The school’s library was transformed overnight into a miniature Sistine Chapel, thanks to the work of several volunteers.
Kids learned all about Michelangelo and his era.
“It is so important to teach kids about the arts because it relates to everything else,” said volunteer Debbie Troester-Solbrid. “Math, science, you name it, history. Arts are a part of everything else — every other subject.”
The FAME program follows students all through elementary school, teaching kids about six artists and six composers each year.
