IAC Gears Up For Boise
The Idaho Association of Counties is gearing up for Boise next week, where members of the organization will vie for what they see as the most important issues in the state right now.
Topping the list of issues are oil and gas development, mental health and taxes.
IAC President Lee Staker said the Legislature has been working for the past couple of years to remove personal property tax from the books.
Staker said as a former small business owner, he dislikes the tax, but he said the state needs to find an adequate replacement if it’s repealed.
“I think it’s the most unfair tax that we have, but it makes up a good portion of our income as a county, as cities and as schools. So, we have to have something there for that,” said Staker.
About 300 representatives from the IAC are signed up to attend this legislative session.
Staker said it’s mainly a networking opportunity for the counties.
