Request For 70-Foot LDS Steeple Near Victor Withdrawn
Blackfoot Farms has withdrawn its request for a conditional use permit that would have allowed a 70-foot steeple to be added to a proposed LDS Church building near Victor. The hearing was originally scheduled Tuesday.
The county’s Planning and Zoning Commission will instead consider an amendment to its zoning ordinance to specifically address general building height standards. County planners discovered existing laws did not adequately cover several common above-roof architectural features including belfries, cupolas, steeples, antennae, church spires and chimneys.
The board will also review other issues including the height of public utility towers and agricultural structures like silos, barns and granaries. The new rules would be applied county-wide.
The Teton County Board of County Commissioners will consider approving plans for construction of the church Thursday.
