Final School Bond & Levy Results

School election results are in after about half a dozen districts in eastern Idaho asked voters to pass initiatives like bonds and levies on Tuesday.

In the only “no” of the night, Salmon voters rejected a $13.5 million bond to build a new school for the sixth straight year.

A $600,000 supplemental levy passed in Aberdeen.

Mackay voters renewed a five-year plant facilities reserve fund.

Soda Springs passed its one-year $600,000 dollar supplemental levy.

Bonneville County passed its $14 million dollar bond.

And Idaho Falls voters overwhelmingly approved a $53 million bond.

In Idaho Falls District 91, the result impacts what the district will ask voters for when it comes to renewing a10-year plant facilities levy in May.

Superintendent George Boland said the levy currently brings in about $2.9 million a year.

At Tuesday night’s meeting, board members discussed two possibilities, but didn’t make any decisions because the election results hadn’t come in yet.

They said if the bond passed, which it has, they’ll levy for $2,442,000, which is about half a million less annually. That would actually decrease tax rates for patrons.

If the the bond had failed, Boland said they would have asked for upwards of $6 million.

Because of election consolidation, board members have to submit a resolution for the plant facilities levy by Friday. Boland said they’ll likely make a final decision on Wednesday, either by special meeting or teleconference.
