Main Street Buzz: Grove City Gardens

With all the warm weather, we thought we?d take you outside for today?s Main Street Buzz.

Owner Richard Johnson works with his kids at Grove City Gardens.

The farm has invested in a new greenhouse and what are called ?high tunnels.?

Johnson said he hopes these measures will drastically improve the farm?s growing season by elongating it a few months.

Johnson sells Grove Valley Gardens produce at an honor store, which will open in May.

He said he hopes the new growing measures will make it possible for people to get fresh, local produce much earlier and later in the year.

“People can come to our farm here, come to our store. They can get vegetable plants, we’ll grow the same vegetable not only for ourselves that we’ll transfer into our high tunnels or out on the farm later,? said Johnson. ?We’ll also sell those to local consumers.”

Johnson said he likes to get creative with the produce he sells. For instance, he grows orange and purple varieties of cauliflower, and then bunches them into a bouquet.
