Idaho Soldier’s Death Confirmed
On Tuesday the Department of Defense officially announced the death of an Idaho soldier killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.
Chris Workman, 33, was posthumously promoted from specialist to sergeant, along with the three other soldiers who were killed in Thursday?s crash.
Workman leaves behind a wife, Camille, and stepson Cole. He grew up in Rupert. He graduated from Minico High School to go on to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration from ISU.
The family released the following statement to the Time-News on Tuesday:
?Chris was a highly energetic, self-reliant man. He was very outgoing and had many friends from throughout Idaho, to include his college friends from Idaho State University. He came from a large Greek and Italian family and had many family members from around Idaho and the Northwest.?
Meanwhile, an investigation is under way to see what caused the Black Hawk helicopter to go down.
Two military sources said the Taliban claimed it used a rocket to shoot down the helicopter.
Workman and three other soldiers on board were on a rescue mission to pick up seven wounded Afghan police officers injured in a suicide bombing.
