Teachers Prepare To Reach New Standards

Hundreds of teachers met at Idaho State University this week, to prepare their teaching for some higher standards.

The state of Idaho is in a transition, moving away from it’s old standards for students, to new, nationwide standards.

So far, 47 states have adopted the new common core standards.

To help prepare for what this means, about 300 public school teachers from across the state met at ISU today for the Total Instructional Alignment conference.

Teachers said the new standards raise the bar, and are a bit more rigorous than what Idaho has had before.

Idaho TIA Director, Sue Jenkins, Ph.D, said the new common core standards will be tougher to reach, but will help students be more ready for the real world…

“I would say the most impressive feature of the new common core state standards is that they were written with the lens of helping students be college and career ready. That’s huge,? Jenkins said.
