US Lawmakers From Wyo. Praise Decision To Drop Youth Farming Rule
The US Department of Labor has dropped a proposed rule that would restrict youth from working in agriculture, and two Republican lawmakers from Wyoming are praising the move.
The new restrictions would have banned teenagers from certain livestock work and eliminated 4-H and FFA training certifications. The controversial proposal would have limited vocational agriculture training as well.
Rep. Cynthia Lummis, led opposition as a member of the House Appropriations Committee. She called it “a clear intrusion on the family farm by the federal government.”
Sen. Mike Enzi, called the administration’s decision “a win for agriculture and the traditions of rural America.”
