Producers talk first-ever Idol Bus Tour

Months before “American Idol” hits the bright lights of Hollywood, crews, including senior executive producer Patrick Lynn, are getting ready to hear the thousands who have come out to audition.

He said the work is never ending.

“This to us, is 24-7. We live, breathe, ‘American Idol’. I mean, take a look at (the bus) you can spot it a mile away.”

The massive bus Lynn is referring to is something special for Season 12.

A15-person crew will live in the bus during a 10-city small town tour across the country.

“We thought it would be a good idea to start going to those small towns where people can’t necessarily get to us,” Lynn said. “So, that’s why we’ve chosen a bunch of towns in areas we normally don’t go to, to go to them.”

And their first stop was right in Idaho Falls.

Lynn and his team were busy keeping things organized as the line of people looking to see if they have what it takes to be the next superstar got longer and longer.

So what exactly are producers looking for in Idaho Falls?

“Something original, something fresh, something we haven’t seen before, hopefully,” senior executive producer Katie Fennelly said.

And based on some of the people who showed up, Lynn and his group will not be disappointed.

The bus now heads to Billings, Montana for auditions on Monday. After that, the team heads to Casper, Wyoming.
