Inmate rehab program gets thumbs up

Local leaders are offering praise to an inmate rehabilitation program that has made a big impression on the Gem State.

State Rep. JoAn Wood, R-Rigby, is spearheading a leadership program for the 7th Judicial District. As part of the “Wood Project” to rehabilitate inmates, the leadership program takes place next to the Bonneville County Jail and offers classes, activities, work and fundraising projects for inmates.

Inmates from Bonneville and surrounding counties all praised the program.

Wood said she hoped that all the praise will add momentum to her efforts.

“We really feel like this is an added incentive,” she said. This gives them incentive to stay in the program to get cured.”

The program started in Bonneville County four years ago and has since boasted a 53 percent success rate.
