Update on Halstead, Mustang Complex fires
Halstead Fire
The Halstead Fire has grown another few thousand acres, bringing its size to more than 104,000 acres Monday.
High winds helped the lightning-caused blaze advance to the east over the weekend. On Monday, authorities said the fire was three miles north of Stanley, while last week, it had been 18 miles to the northwest.
More than 600 firefighters are working to fortify firelines. This fire is 7 percent contained.
Mustang Complex Fire
As the Mustang Complex Fire continues to grow, a pre-evacuation notice is in effect from Gibbonsville south to and including North Fork.
The fire was charring nearly 146,000 acres in the Salmon-Challis National Forest.
Mandatory evacuations in the Spring Creek and Indian Creek drainages remain in effect.
No homes have been lost in those areas.
Salmon River Road remains open, but if you’re heading through there, be careful. The Bureau of Land Management says active fire behavior is causing rocks and debris to roll down onto the road.
