North Canyon fire destroys two homes near Montpelier

Fire has destroyed two residences and one outbuilding about 20 miles west/northwest of Montpelier and north of Highway 36. The Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center said 24 homes and 12 outbuildings are threatened by fire this morning. In addition, the North Canyon fire could also threaten high power transmission lines, other structures, and North Canyon Creek.

Burning in timber, grass and brush, the fire was estimated at 325 acres Wednesday morning. 12 engines, two water tenders are on the scene and a 20 person hand crew is expected to arrive on the scene today. The Fire Center said additional air resources are available if needed.
