Crews mop up Madison County fire

A brush fire burning in Madison County was mostly out Wednesday evening.

At 6 p.m., firefighters had mostly put out the Pickering Fire and were mopping up the blaze.

The fire burned at least 50 acres of land west of the Unified Sportsman’s Club Gun Range on State Highway 33 west of Rexburg. The blaze moved away from the gun range.

The sheriff’s office said this may have been caused by a spark from someone mowing the lawn near the road.

Fire crews from Jefferson and Madison counties were at the fire, as well as the Bureau of Land Management and a couple small airplanes.
