Greys River WHMA vehicle access to be restricted

Citing repeated resource damage, wildlife disturbance and “a desire to provide users a higher quality wildlife experience”, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department plans to close motor vehicle access on the Greys River Wildlife Habitat Management Area near Alpine.

Under the plan, vehicle access would still be allowed at the main entrance to a parking area and on the Dell Creek Trail in the southern portion of the wildlife management area. Foot access to the entire area would be allowed from May1 to November 30.

Wyoming Game and Fish Habitat and Access Coordinator Matt Miller said the land was purchased with hunter and angler funds to provide quality fish and wildlife habitat and has become an important elk calving area. “Obviously, we want the public to enjoy the public land,” said Miller,” but sometimes an area becomes so popular that it begins to compromise the original intent, which is wildlife habitat.”
