Highway near St. Anthony open after crash

Two people were injured in an accident on Highway 20 near St. Anthony on Wednesday afternoon.

Vanessa Hawkes, 19, of Sugar City, was driving north in a Chevy Suburban. Antonia Sermiento, 60, of St. Anthony was waiting on 400 North in a Buick Park Avenue to turn south onto Hwy 20.

According to Idaho State Police, Sermeinto turned right in front of Hawkes. Sermiento ended up on the eastbound shoulder while the crash sent Hawkes into the median.

A witness told Local News 8 emergency crews had to extricate at least one person from a vehicle.

An air ambulance took Sermiento to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, ISP said. An EIRMC house supervisor says she is still being assessed so it’s unclear what condition she is in.

An ambulance took Hawkes to Madison Memorial where she was treated and released, according to a hospital official.

The northbound lanes of Hwy 20 are back open. They had been closed for a short time after the accident.
