Driver identified in train crash
A person killed after a dump truck hit a train Wedneday morning east of Dayton has been identified.
The driver of the Franklin County truck was Heber Lewis, 56, of Preston.
Lewis was driving eastbound on State Highway 36 while thick fog was in the area. Around 10 a.m., Lewis struck the side of a train that was already at the railroad crossing near milepost 127. It was northbound.
Multiple train cars were derailed, and the tracks were damaged in the crash.
Lewis died at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.
Both lanes of the highway were blocked as of Wednesday morning.
The Idaho State Police said the crossing is equipped with flashing red lights that were functioning properly.
