Upper valley power restored

Power was slowly restored to almost 15,000 Rocky Mountain Power Company customers in eastern Idaho on Monday morning.

Utility spokesperson Margaret Oler said linemen discovered a downed transmission line near St. Anthony. Power went out to most of the upper valley region shortly after 5 a.m. while temperatures dipped to near 30 below zero in some areas.

RMP said all power was up by 10:30 a.m. Specific areas were brought on incrementally to avoid creating another overall service disruption.

At one time 14,733 customers were affected by the outage.

Madison, Sugar-Salem and Fremont school districts canceled school Monday. Brigham Young University-Idaho started to hold classes at 11:30 a.m.
