Municipal broadband study begins

Parts of the Upper Valley are taking a big step toward getting more connected.

The city of Rexburg held its first public meeting at City Hall to talk about municipal broadband.

The meeting kicks off a three-month study to assess the need for faster Internet service in Madison, Teton and Fremont counties in Idaho, as well as Teton County, Wyo.

From there, project leaders will decide on services, costs and providers.

“Wireless would be a component, but we’re also talking fiber to business, fiber to home, potentially,” said Scott Johnson, Rexburg’s director of economic development. “It’s really just to look at how we get better connectivity.”

There will be several more public meetings.
