Military explosive found at Jefferson landfill

A Jefferson County employee found an explosive device at the Circular Butte Landfill on Tuesday.

Jefferson County dispatch was contacted and sent units to the site in Terreton. Sheriff Blair Olsen asked that the Bonneville County bomb squad be called out to identify the explosive and remove it from the area.

Due to the explosive material being of military grade, officials from Mountain Home Air Force Base were to arrive Wednesday to dispose of it.

It appeared that it was with some old discarded military memorabilia from a garage or basement.

If you find something similar, such as old ammunition or military ordinance, contact your local law enforcement agency rather than throwing it away, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.
