Severe Thunderstorm Watch
Around 4pm the National Weather Service in Pocatello and the Storm Prediction Center in Oklahoma issued Severe Thunderstorm Watches for Eastern Idaho, Western Wyoming, Northeast Nevada and Northern Utah.
The watch will last until 11pm.
Primary threats include… several damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible several large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is approximately along and 105 statute miles north and south of a line from 50 miles west southwest of Wendover Utah to 35 miles east northeast of Big Piney Wyoming. Precautionary/preparedness actions… Remember…a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes. Discussion…thunderstorms continue to develop this afternoon ahead of a short-wave trough shifting east-southeast across the Washington/Oregon vicinity. With enhanced west-southwesterly mid-level flow southeast of the trough and a relatively moist/unstable environment having diurnally evolved…isolated severe storms capable of producing locally damaging gusts and large hail will likely continue through the mid evening time frame. Aviation…a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft to 1.5 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots.
