Pocatello girl dies from gunshot wound in Yellowstone

Yellowstone National Park officials have identified a 3-year-old girl who died from a gunshot wound at the park over the weekend.

They identified her as Ella Marie Tucker, of Pocatello, Idaho.

Park officials say Ella’s mother called for help on Saturday to report her daughter had shot herself with a handgun. Park officials released the girl’s name Monday but said they are not releasing her parents’ names.

Officials say Saturday’s shooting at the Grant Village Campground remains under investigation. In the meantime, they’re releasing no further details, including how they believe the girl got ahold of the gun.

It was the first shooting death in Yellowstone since 1978. Carrying a gun in a national park is legal under a federal law that took effect in 2010.
