Pocatello Animal Shelter holds annual Run with the Big Dogs

The Pocatello Animal Shelter held their 16th annual “Run with the Big Dogs” on Saturday, but dogs of all shapes and sizes turned out.

Participants could enter into the 2k walk, 5k walk or 5k run. All proceeds go toward the construction of the new animal shelter and toward their adoption programs.

Pocatello Animal Shelter director Mary Remer estimated the amount raised to be about $10,000, and added her thanks for all those who turned out for the fun.

Cassandra Hunter, groomer at one of the run’s sponsors, Pom Poso Place, said while sometimes the little dogs seem to think they’re much bigger than they are, but it’s good interaction for all the dogs involved.

“You get to spend time with your dog outside in a public setting where it’s just a lot of fun,” Hunter said. “You get a whole bunch of goodies and it’s for a really good cause.”

The Pocatello Animal Shelter will be holding a groundbreaking celebration for the new building on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. at current shelter location, 3100 Avenue of the Chiefs.
