2 arrested on drug charges in Power County
A traffic stop led to the seizure of nearly 14 pounds of marijuana in Power County on Sunday and the latest in Interstate 86 drug arrests.
Idaho State Police pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation around 11:15 a.m. on Interstate 86 east of American Falls.
With the help of the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit, police found 13.8 pounds of marijuana.
The driver, Jadd Shammas, 25, of Mi-Wuk Village, Calif., and passenger Jedediah Bright, 24, of Grass Valley, Calif., were incarcerated in the Power County Jail on charges of trafficking a controlled substance and felony possession of marijuana.
The incident is part of a recent pattern of traffic stops becoming marijuana-related arrests on I-86 near American Falls, with law enforcement throughout southeastern Idaho focusing on that stretch. Authorities have said that for many drug traffickers, I-86 is one of the only corridors connecting states where pot is legal to places such as the Dakotas and Canada.
