Dora Erickson ribbon cutting, demolition
The new Dora Erickson Elementary School held a ribbon cutting Monday.
Students, school board members, and even Idaho Falls Mayor Jared Furhiman gathered to watch. Now that the new school is open, it’s time for the old school to become a playground.
Some viewers said they heard loud noises or booms in Idaho Falls last week. The police department used the building for training, since there was no concern about damaging the building. This week it will be demolished, but it may be a little quieter.
“No explosions, no imploding, not a very exciting process, just excavators knocking down walls and scooping them up, then putting debris in dump trucks,” said George Boland, superintendent of Idaho Falls District 91.
Contractors will have to remove asbestos before they demolish the school.
