Idaho Falls City Council approves winter fines and golf fees
Tuesday night, the Idaho Falls City Council approved a couple of items that may impact the wallets of its citizens.
First, the City Council passed an infraction penalty for failure to remove snow, sleet and hail from the entire sidewalk within 24 hours. The first violation is a $50 fine. The second is $75, and the third is $100. There are exceptions for people who are physically or mentally unable, 70 years of age or older, as well as pregnant women.
A handful of men then gave their opinion on the proposed fee increases for the city’s public golf courses. Increases were made in nearly every category, but vary in amount.
Lane Isom, a 15-year pass holder, says fee increases have been too frequent over the years, and it may soon prevent people from golfing altogether.
“It could have the opposite effect,” said Isom. “If we keep raising the price, pretty soon there’ll be fewer people playing, so they might have revenue problems then.”
Tuesday was the first time an Idaho Falls City Council meeting was streamed live online.
