Sebastian: Wednesday’s Child

Sebastian wants to have an adoptive family of his own with parents who will truly appreciate the significant academic and behavioral gains he has made over the past several months. After joining a local Boy Scouts troop, Sebastian could hardly contain his enthusiasm; he was heard summing up his experience to his recruiter in three words, “It really rocks!”

An engaging boy who hopes to find adoptive parents who like sports and computers, who have family pets, and who may have a same-age or an older child or two. Sebastian is especially drawn to men, and it would be wonderful for him to have an adoptive dad who would take an active role in parenting him. Sebastian loves to participate in just about any kind of family activity that gives him a sense of belonging.

In September 2013, Sebastian will be entering sixth grade. He will likely be rewarded as he was in the past by being assigned to a mostly mainstream classroom. Sebastian has earned that advancement due to the hard work he has put into his academic learning, which has boosted his grade point very nicely, and his ability to pay attention and behave appropriately in school.

The parental traits that Sebastian and his recruiter will appreciate are an abundance of patience, calmness, nurturing and gentle humor. If the parents are not already familiar with the tools and strategies of behavioral management, they might want to take a crash course. Of course, they also need to be effective advocates for Sebastian’s educational and therapeutic needs throughout childhood and adolescence.

While Sebastian could certainly benefit from having two parents, his recruiter and his social worker do not want to miss out on hearing from those exceptional single dads and single moms who have strong support from family, friends, and community resources. If you are ready to help this delightful boy continue to grow by leaps and bounds, we want to hear from you soon!
