Pocatello East Stake hosts fair to promote planning ahead
The Pocatello East Stake held its 4th Annual Emergency Preparedness Fair Saturday in Pocatello.
The goal of the fair is to raise awareness on how to prepare for emergencies of all kinds. Booths lined a room in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints across from Caldwell Park, showing kits and tools to cook food without electricty.
Other booths showed how to communicate with radios. A big focus was on creating food storage in your home, and educating people on what items they can keep and cook for at least 90 days. However, Del Simmons, chairman of the committee that puts on the fair, said the goal is a year’s worth of food storage.
“There are times out there where there might be a pandemic or something like that where you’re required to stay home,” Simmons said. “So what are you going to do? You need to have at least some food on hand and be able to take care of the needs of your family.”
