Homeless man arrested on arson, burglary charges

A homeless man he broke into a garage and started two fires on the 1400 block of Riviera, Idaho Falls police said.

Police contacted Charles Hill, 31, on the 1800 block of East 17th around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday after they got reports a man with a gas can was trying to break into apartments. When they contacted him, officers found Hill next to a barbecue that had a fire burning in it. He had a gas can.

Officers said Hill had broken into a garage at a house on Riviera, not far from his location, and started two fires in the garage that caused damage. He also stole the gas can from the same house, they said.

Hill was arrested on felony burglary and third-degree arson charges and booked into the Bonneville County Jail.
