Man accused in bank robbery in court

A man accused in the June 17 robbery of the US Bank on Yellowstone Avenue in Pocatello was in court Thursday. Ronald Allen Shumaker, 60, was arraigned in 6th District Court in Pocatello on a charge of robbery.

Shumaker was arrested in Anaconda, Montana, two days later. He was extradited back to Pocatello to face the charges and was formally booked into the Bannock County Jail on Wednesday.

It was disclosed in court Wednesday that Shumaker was unarmed at the time of the robbery and homeless.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled July 17. Shumaker is being held on $250,000 bond.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison and a $50,000 fine.

John Stoor of Pocatello, who allegedly helped Shumaker in the robbery, will be tried in federal court.
