D Street underpass nears completion
The Idaho Falls Public Works Division now says construction work on the D Street underpass should be complete by mid-August.
The project began in March 2013, and the road has been closed between Yellowstone and Eastern Avenue ever since.
The underpass was originally scheduled for completion in June, but a Union Pacific train derailment outside the area pulled railroad crews off the project.According to the City of Idaho Falls, that caused delays in getting railroad traffic switched over to the new structure.
A railroad crossing at Lava Street will be permanently closed following completion of the D Street underpass.A pedestrian railroad crossing at B Street and Yellowstone Avenue is already open.
