Blackfoot improves downtown roads

The City of Blackfoot is making Ash Street more handicapped accessible.

Due to new regulations under the Americans with Disabilities Act, city crews are working the whole street. For the past six weeks crews have been removing old asphalt and laying a new base. They’re also adding curbside corners to most of the intersections along the road.

Street supervisor Vaughn Key said the city has been planning to project for a while, but was finally able to move forward with contributions from the Blackfoot Urban Renewal District. The only stipulation from their agreement to help was the city’s use of current resources, so reconstruction may take longer than normal.

“It’ll get done. We’re not as fast, as full as a construction company due to a limited crew, but bear with us. We’ll get it done,” said Key. “It’s just a typical day on the job. If we’re not doing here, we’re doing it elsewhere in town as far as the roadwork.”

The city plans to have the whole road completed in the next couple of months.
