American Red Cross experiencing a blood shortage

The American Red Cross is in need of blood donations. Over the last 11 weeks donations have gone down 8 percent, which is about 80,000 fewer donations than expected.

Eligible donors with types O negative, B negative and A negative blood are especially needed.

“Some people do make appointments and they don’t show up, and that is very, very difficult for someone who is arranging the blood drive. They think their schedule is full and then people do not show up. However, in the summer, people are busy or on vacation, they are off of work, and they forget that people need blood for 52 weeks of the year,” said Christine Gladstone, senior donor recruitment representative.

There is a blood drive Thursday, July 24, at Fairwinds – Sand Creek Retirement Community. They have a goal of 40, donors and only eight have booked appointments. If you would like to make an appointment, call (208) 542-6200.
