It’s official: Idaho Falls is Idaho Falls
Idaho Falls is now officially part of its own city code. The Idaho Falls City Council approved an ordinance amending Title 1, Chapter 1 of the official city code Thursday night.
City Attorney Randy Fife said that because of the historic importance of the foundational documents, it was critical to make them part of Idaho Falls’ official code.
The town of Eagle Rock, Idaho, was established July 8, 1889. The name of the city was changed from Eagle Rock to Idaho Falls on Aug. 26, 1891, following an election in Eagle Rock on July 22, 1891.
But the original copy of that action is a document currently stored in the basement of the Bingham County Courthouse in Blackfoot. Idaho Falls was part of Bingham County at the time.
Fife said the action would help Idaho Falls prove it was legally incorporated, should the issue ever come up in a legal case. By example, he pointed out that as an assistant city attorney in Dallas, Texas, he had to prove that Dallas the city was actually part of Dallas County.
