New food pantry being built in Blackfoot
Construction of a new food pantry to feed the hungry in Blackfoot is under way.
Bill Sponenburg, who owned Kirkham’s Auto Parts, donated one of his warehouses.
Contractors like Tad Stoker of Final Touch Exteriors are volunteering their time Stoker said the pantry will be ready for its grand opening in about two weeks.
Dave Sonnenburg has donated a huge walk-in freezer. And the company Alsco is giving a $25,000 dollar grant — that’s how the materials are being bought for this project.
The project is part of the Community Dinner Table and the Blackfoot Community Pantry. It’s a good example of different religious denominations working together.
The present pantry isn’t large enough to hold all the food needed to feed the hungry in Bingham County. This new pantry will take care of that and more.
In addition, volunteers are getting a grant to offer educational classes on nutrition at the new pantry.
