Standoff ends peacefully in Blackfoot

A 14-hour standoff between a Blackfoot man and police has ended peacefully.

Local News 8 has confirmed through family and friends the man is 45 year old Scott Phillips. Police have not yet confirmed his identity.

The man barricaded himself in the Blackbird Seven Fruit and Vegetable building around 3 a.m. Thursday. The building is across the street of Rupe’s Burgers.

Blackfoot Police Captain Scott Gay said they made contact with him several times by phone, but refused to come out.

Officers used a tactical vehicle with arm to ram the door in. The man then came out with his hands up. Officers quickly took him to the ground and handcuffed him.

Police say during the arrest of Phillips, they pushed him to the ground to end the situation quickly with no further complications. Police said Philips was not injured.

East Alice was closed between Northwest Main and North Schilling during the standoff as police stood around with their tactical gear on.
