Yellowstone tourism sets new October record

Yellowstone National Park set a new tourism record in October.

According to new statistics,194,804 recreational visitors came to Yellowstone in October, surpassing the previous October record of 189,072 set in 2010.

Visitor numbers were up 10.26 percent over the same time last year. Park officials said the difference reflects the park’s 16-day closure due to last October’s federal government shutdown.

So far this year, there have been 3,483,608 recreational visits to the park. 2014 is already the second highest visitation year on record.

Yellowstone’s peak visitation year was 2010, when there were 3,640,184 recreational visits.
