Waitress puts spin on veteran appreciation

Tiffany Johnson has only been a waitress at the Ammon Texas Roadhouse for a couple of months, but she said she will always be a Marine.

“I served for five years and I enjoyed every minute of it,” said Johnson. “It’s the best experience that I’ve ever had, and one thing I will never take away is being around them, serving with them, and thanking the ones before me for setting it up that way it was for me.”

Johnson took orders and served with a smile as she honored fellow veterans today. But she couldn’t help but tear up as she passed a table reserved for those who couldn’t be here — prisoners of war and soldiers missing in action.

“It’s something we felt was necessary because they paid the ultimate price,” said manager Fisher Duran. “We should honor them and since they can’t be here, we definitely have this set up so they recognize that we acknowledge them even though they aren’t here.”

“You realize that it’s something more than just free food, it’s not just another day that someone just gets to live,” said Johnson. “It’s remembering everything that we have done for this country, for everybody to get to where we are now.”

Texas Roadhouse served free lunch to all veterans who walked through their front doors on Tuesday.
