Alternative Gift Market offers more than shelved items
Some folks in Pocatello have already started shopping for Christmas gifts for loved ones, but they’re not things you’ll find on a store shelf.
The United Church of Christ held the 8th Alternative Gift Market, where 20 groups offered unique gifts to help those in need during the holiday season.
Many local vendors from non-profit agencies were on hand to offer gifts in the name of your loved one, like a money donation to help Pocatello’s sister city in Burkina Faso, Africa get an ambulance for the village of Kwaremenguel.
There were also options to make a donation in someone’s name to Aid for Friends, the Idaho Foodbank, CASA and many more.
“It’s a wonderful project,” said Jennifer Seaich, a member of the committee that organized the event. “It’s a wonderful way for those of us who are Christian to say that the real spirit of Christmas is not more stuff. It’s helping people who need it.”

The Pocatello branch of the Idaho Foodbank also said it needs food before Christmas. Staff said they have about 150 turkeys and need a total of 1,000 in time for Thanksgiving.
