Ice buildup causes minor flooding near St. Anthony

Ice buildup has created a minor flood threat on the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River at St. Anthony.

There is still an open channel in the river.

Fremont County Emergency Management Director Keith Richey said Monday the ice was causing some minor flooding of low lying pasture ground. There was no immediate threat to buildings.

Richey said there is an increased risk of flooding when temperatures drop.

“When the temperatures stay down low, it’s not uncommon for the river gauges to show an increase of a foot or more in a 24-hour period,” he said.

Richey said though there is no concern over major flooding, he is asking people to stay away from the edge of the river and not to go out on the ice.
