Committee member objects to bond proposal

A committee member for Bonneville District 93 is objecting to a bond proposal to build a new high school.

Thursday evening Superintendent Chuck Shackett said more than 80 percent of the committee members voted in favor of building a new school.

Committee member, Halli Stone, said the committee process was unfair because she was told by a facilitator to stay silent, if she didn’t agree with the outcome or the process.

“My side of this is that the district convened a committee that they said was supposed to be representative of the voters of District 93, but from my observations and from others it appeared to be heavily stacked of district employees, who of course were very much in favor of building a new high school,” Stone said.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Shackett said the committee is going to allow a minority report for those that didn’t agree with the majority. Once the school board makes a final decision, it will be put up for public vote in March.
