Committee says district should build new high school
A committee for Bonneville School District 93 has decided what it will present to the school board next month to resolve the overcrowding issue.
The two options are to expand both high schools or to build a completely new high school.
On Wednesday night, more than 80 percent of the committee voted in favor of building a new high school.
If this happens, it will cost nearly $64 million.
The decision comes after results were presented from a telephone and online survey.
Superintendent Dr. Chuck Shackett said community support is most important when passing this bond.
“We’re going to let them determine how the school should be laid out, where do you want the football field , where do you want the traffic flow to be, where do you want the parking lots?” said Shackett. “That sort of thing, because we don’t care. We know we need a school. We know we need a school. Let’s have the neighborhood decide how that school is laid out.”
After the school board makes a final decision, it will then be put up for public vote in March.
A similar bond has failed with voters in the past.
