Gas removed from AmeriGas tanks after explosion
Technicians and emergency crews finished removing gas from compromised tanks after Thursday’s explosion and fire in Jackson.
The incident had occurred when a propane truck was offloading at AmeriGas, prompting evacuations in the area. No one was seriously hurt.
The gas was removed Friday through a process called flaring, in which technicians burn off the remaining gas in the tanks.
During the flaring process, a part of High School Road as well as the bike path behind Smith’s and AmeriGas were closed. They are now open.
If you have personal property in Bell Fitness, meet emergency personnel at the south end of the Smith’s Grocery parking lot Friday at 3 p.m. to retrieve your belongings. If your vehicle was in the Bell Fitness parking lot and was not destroyed, you can retrieve it at any time.
Those that have vehicles that were destroyed in the explosion are asked to contact Teton County Emergency Operations Center at (307) 733-9572.
