Idaho Falls woman accused of leaving loaded gun in reach of children

An Idaho Falls woman was arrested Thursday evening when police investigated a tip about two small children living in unclean conditions and having access to a gun.

After they got the tip, officers responded to the home on the 200 block of Eighth Street around 5:30 p.m. for a welfare check.

They “did find reports substantiated, including a loaded .40 caliber pistol that was easily accessible by the 4-year-old child and baby living in the home,” police said. They said they also found she had syringes and meth.

Kathleen Allen, 29, was arrested on charges of felony injury to a child, as well as possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

She was booked into the Bonneville County Jail.

The children were placed in the custody of a relative.
