Suspect arrested after killing at Idaho Falls party
A Pocatello man was arrested in California after a woman was shot and killed in Idaho Falls early Thursday morning.
The victim is 34-year-old AnnaRae Ponce.
The Reno Police Department said 25-year-old Kevin Michael Mcquilliams of Pocatello was taken into custody in Truckee, California. He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and involuntary manslaughter.
KTVN-TV in Reno reports Deputies in Winnemucca had reports of Mcquilliams at a local motel. He surfaced there Thursday afternoon before being spotted in Sparks. The suspect was able to flee the area before authorities could stop him.Mcquilliams was then taken into custody a short time later Thursday evening.
Earlier that day, police were called to a report of shots being fired in the 900 block of South Emerson near Kate Curley Parkaround 1:30 a.m. Police say it was a report of a disturbance at a party.
A fight broke out at the party after a group arrived at the home. During the fight, a gun was fired, and the bullet from the gun struck and killed Ponce.
“This has been an extremely safe city to live in an extremely safe neighborhood and it’s upsetting to be so close,” said neighbor Jay Gaskill. “Beyond that, it is very disturbing because we like to know all of our neighbors and we know the neighbor next door. We’re happy to hear he’s OK.”
