Authorities investigate death of inmate with Fremont County conviction

The Idaho Department of Correction is calling the death of an inmate with a conviction in Fremont County an apparent suicide.

Donald Peters Shriver, 48, was found unconscious in his cell at Idaho Maximum Security Institution on Sunday around 11:15 p.m. He died after first aid was performed and he was rushed to a Boise hospital.

Shriver was serving a life sentence. His criminal record included convictions for robbery, assault on a law enforcement officer and aggravated battery in Twin Falls County; aggravated assault in Ada County and assault on a law enforcement officer in Fremont County.

As it does with all apparent suicides in the South Boise Correctional Complex, IDOC has asked the Ada County Sheriff’s Office for help in investigating the circumstances surrounding Shriver’s death, according to a news release Monday.
