Grammy-nominated musician visits schools

Grammy-nominated musician LT Smooth was in Pocatello Wednesday where he visited four schools and spoke to students about his experiences.

From a troubled kid who stole and used drugs, LT Smooth said he rose to new heights after he began making better decisions — and he hopes students can learn from this.

“Just hope, man. Just giving kids an opportunity to make a choice in their life to change,” said LT Smooth.

Local News 8 caught up with the New Zealand-born musician at Irving Middle School where his message hit home.

“I was just surprised how, like, he went from, like, a gangster to, like, a superstar,” said sixth grader Shawn Devaney.

“He actually got down into my heart. I thought he was really good and stuff,” said seventh grader Keyshawn Newby.

LT Smooth plans to visit three high schools in Idaho Falls Thursday followed by several more schools in Rexburg.

Friday at 7:30 p.m., he’ll be holding at concert at BYU-Idaho’s Kirkham Auditorium. You can order tickets through the BYU-Idaho ticket office.
