City Council honors firefighters for saving woman

The Idaho Falls City Council showed its appreciation for city firefighters Thursday night after they saved a woman from a burning home.

The fire happened on New Year’s Day on North Fifth East.

When fire crews arrived, they found a one-story house on fire and the woman collapsed on the ground.

“They did a tremendous job on Jan. 1 being able to get to the scene of this fire quickly,” said Idaho Falls Fire Chief Dan Hanneman. “No doubt in my mind if they didn’t get to into the house on fire and with heavy smoke and pulled the female occupant out and without them being them she would have lost her life.”

The woman was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Three engines and 15 firefighters put out the fire. The house was completely destroyed.
