Idaho Falls man arrested after pursuit

Update: Police said Monday that Jayson Burns was arrested on charges of felony eluding, possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a handgun.

An Idaho Falls man is in custody after a police chase Friday.

Police said 26-year-old Jayson Burns was wanted on multiple warrants and was rumored to have drugs and weapons on him. Around 11:30 Friday morning, he was spotted in a blue truck in Idaho Falls city limits.

After an undercover detective confirmed the man in the truck was Burns, an officer started to follow the man. Burns then pulled out in front of the officer and took off near Higby and 11th streets.

IFPD stopped pursuing him when he left city limits.

It wasn’t long after when a Bonneville County deputy located the truck on Hitt Road.

Police said shortly thereafter, a neighbor called saying the blue truck was speeding down the street and parked in an Aspen Park Apartments garage on Elizabeth Road, where police were able to move in and make an arrest.

A woman who was with Burns was also arrested and also has charges pending.

Police said the woman who lives in the apartment is under investigation, but as of Friday afternoon, they would not say what the investigation entails.

Neighbors said the road is normally busy during the time of day the road was blocked off because it’s where Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership Head Start parents drop off and pick up their preschoolers. However, the school isn’t in session on Fridays.
