Actor and cook win Distinguished Student Award

Sugar-Salem High School senior Collin Cronin plays the roll of the tax man in Sugar-Salem’s production of “You Can’t Take It With You.” Cronin has been in several school plays and enjoys it.

“You can take on different characters,” Cronin said. “You can be serious for one part, and and the next part you could be this weird, funny redneck and everyone understands that you’re acting.”

Cronin’s biggest passion is acting.

“Just the idea of being able to cook every day of my life — I really like that thought,” Cronin said.

Cronin is planning how he can do just that.

“I want to go to a culinary school and get a degree in culinary, and also a degree in business management so I can open my own restaurant,” Cronin said.

His teacher’s say Cronin is a very hard worker. He competes in the academic decathlon – it’s kind of like an athletic competition, but students have to answer academic questions. He has also spent time tutoring Jr. High students in math.

“They really like math but they couldn’t understand it,” Cronin said.

With Cronin’s determination, don’t be surprised to see him open his own restaurant some day.
